Welcome to the future! Latest news on the virtual fashion front is that Balenciaga and Epic games announced a new brand collab. The legendary game Fortnite, known for it’s AI and VR experiments with live in-game-concerts and their collab with Louis Vuitton in 2019, is a getting a line of aesthetic items in collaboration with the Spanish luxury designer Balenciaga lead by designer Demna Gvasalia. The collaboration spans virtual and physical clothes, as well as a marketing campaign that will appear on billboards in cities like New York and Tokyo, as well as in Fortnite itself. Why? Well, simply because both companies want to expose the brand to the kids, the coming generation consumers. And, where are the kids? In Fortnite, obviously. Is there any magic in this collaboration? No, helas. Just putting both logo’s on a white T-shirt and charging $425 for it? Sorry guys, not good enough. Curious anyhow? The “Balenciaga Fit Set” brings four new outfits in addition to a variety of other items like backpacks, pickaxes, wraps, a glider, and an emote. Just that you know, the ‘real life’, physical Balenciaga Fortnite hoodie costs $725, the Shady Doggo skin (the one that wears the white sweatshirt) will cost 1200 V-Bucks or roughly $8.50. Hoppa.
