Gob Launches Compostable Mycelium Earplugs: A Sustainable Alternative to Plastic, one step at the time.
Gob, an innovative product company, has introduced a groundbreaking pair of compostable earplugs made entirely from mycelium, the fibrous root network of mushrooms. This eco-friendly solution aims to combat the staggering 40 billion plastic earplugs produced annually. These mycelium earplugs maintain the familiar shape of traditional bright yellow safety earplugs but come in a natural light cream color, reflecting their mushroom origins. Designed for single use, they prioritize hygiene and performance, breaking down in approximately 45 days after disposal to enrich the soil.
Offering a hypoallergenic fit, these earplugs mold comfortably to the ear, similar to memory foam, ensuring both comfort and effectiveness. Gob touts their mycelium structure as providing “exceptional” acoustic properties. With mycelium gaining traction among designers for its sustainable and structural benefits, Gob’s earplugs represent a significant step forward in eco-conscious product design.
