Furf Design Studio has unveiled a groundbreaking innovation in sustainable architecture with the world’s first mycelium facade for Crema Lab in Curitiba.
This pioneering design blends cutting-edge material use with eco-friendly construction techniques. Inspired by the texture of an ice cream cone, the cafe’s facade is crafted from biodegradable mycelium panels, developed in collaboration with Brazilian scientists and the startup Mush. These panels, made from agricultural waste, not only sequester CO2 during production but also provide thermal and acoustic insulation.
This marks a major leap forward in sustainable building practices. Treated for durability to withstand weather conditions, the mycelium facade is a trailblazing example of biotechnological materials being used in commercial architecture.
