Heterosis by Mat Collishaw and Danil Krivoruchko, produced by Snark.art and El Gabal for OG.Art Heterosis sees participants hybridize and cultivate their own bespoke animated NFT flowers that grow in a hyperrealistic metaverse “Greenhouse” – a high-end virtual recreation of London’s National Gallery in a post-apocalyptic state of disrepair.
Here are five key steps on how to join the journey and make the most of it!
❶ Collect your unique flower Each flower is an individual NFT with unique DNA – a combination of genes, defining the flower’s species, material, petal shape, petal quantity, and other traits. The NFT’s primary look is generated according to the content of the owner’s wallet and an element of random luck. Each flower has also got a unique title generated by AI, using words from ‘The Library of Babel’ a short story by Jorge Luis Borges.
❷ Discover new species Initially, the flowers in the collection have only a few basic traits. But through the breeding game, collectors can activate mutations and unlock new colours, patterns and even completely new species. When a new trait is discovered, it can spread across the whole population – just as diversification works in nature.
❸ Find your flower in a metaverse Greenhouse These dynamic NFT flowers exist collectively in an extraordinary metaverse ‘Greenhouse’ — a virtual, post-apocalyptic recreation of London’s National Gallery. All the NFT flowers can be seen growing in their current forms among the abandoned, overgrown remnants of this historic building. Equally, all newly bred species also enter the space in real time.
❹ Create an avatar and socialize with other collectors Our community members will be able to enter the greenhouse space as high-quality avatars, and can freely move through the gallery and talk to each other through an inbuilt audio system. The user interface permits the owners to find their own flowers and get information about their features and prices.
❺ Get paid to breed with your flowers To hybridize their flowers, collectors have to pay the owner of the second parent flower a collectors’ fee. Collectors themselves set this fee depending on their flower’s rarity and can also breed their own flowers for free when owning more than one. The mechanics of Heterosis are only possible in the crypto space, with its participants becoming co-creators. The resulting artwork will be a collective effort and, ultimately, something wonderfully unpredictable!
