Starting now, Roblox players – within a virtual world where avatars can create and share various experiences – can step into a new metaverse that blends virtual life with work. This unique and rare opportunity will become a reality with “The Co-worker Game,” launching on June 24. From this date, gamers aged 18 and over, living in the UK or Ireland, can apply for virtual roles at an IKEA store. IKEA is looking to hire 10 new employees, represented by 10 avatars, for paid positions in its all-virtual store. Successful candidates will earn £13.15 per hour or €14.80 per hour, aligning with IKEA’s hourly wage for a London-based employee. “As a Living Wage Foundation employer, our salary is aligned with the Foundation’s actual wage,” stated the company. Interviews for these roles will also be conducted online, requiring a questionnaire and an updated CV. “Successful candidates will utilize their skills, assist customers, and have the opportunity to advance to other departments, just like in the real world.” Each selected candidate will be compensated at the IKEA Co-Worker hourly rate for their time spent in the game. This innovative project from IKEA is part of the “other careers” initiative, aimed at attracting a new generation of workers. Applications are open until Sunday, June 16.
